RCAF Avro Lancaster RESCUE 1/72nd Scale
Another famous Canadian subject. The Canadian variant of the Avro Lancaster heavy bomber was manufactured  by Victory Aircraft Limited in Malton, Ontario.

Victory Aircraft was contracted to build the Avro Lancaster Mk X in 1941 in an effort to expand production.

A Lancaster Mk I was flown from across the Atlantic  to serve as a template for production. The differences between the British Lancs and the Canadian built Mk X versions  were that engines and other vital components were to be manufactured in the US  and Canada.
Rather than using the infamous Rolls Royce Merlin engines, these aircraft had 'Merlins' manufactured by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan.   The Canadian manufactured bombers were designed to be compatible mechanically in every respect to the British made bombers, for servicabillity and maintainance once shipped overseas.

The Canadian "Lancs" were fittingly assigned to No. 6 Group RCAF, the Canadian wing of RAF Bomber Command. 430 Canadian-built Mk X Lancasters, including six transport conversions, were manufactured by the end of the war.

After the war several Lancasters served with the RCAF in several roles including, Arctic reconnaissance and maritime patrol and rescue operations across Canada. The Lancaster was retired from servic in 1964. A total of 7,377 Lancasters were produced in Britain and Canada.

I came across CanMilAir' s decal sheet for an RCAF Rescue Lanc. online and happen to have an old Lancaster Mk I kit I found at a model show bargain bin. Time for a little research..
